>>14727300It's tradition. 100+ years ago, wrestling was a shoot. Wrestlers and promoters eventually realized that they could make more consistent money by having "business matches" with predetermined finishes. Up until recently, those in the wrestling business kept up a facade of legitimacy, although people were generally aware of the "worked" nature of it from the 1930s onward. It's only been since the mid-90s that wrestling promotions and wrestlers have more or less admitted that it's more of a performance than a competition. It turns out that you get a more entertaining overall presentation when the fights are worked; there's little to no chance that a big hyped flight ends after 30 seconds by a fluke knockout or something like that. UFC was cool when it first started, but eventually it degenerated into modern MMA rules groundhug and it's more boring than curling. Meanwhile, pro wrestling gives you a pantomime of combat along with drama and characters that you just don't get in MMA or professional boxing.
