The 2nd Austin heel turn along with WCW Jobbers being in the Invasion. Vince also had no idea what he wanted to do with WCW and couldn't handle his stars being out popped by WCW ECW guys so he turned it into McMahon drama bullshit that everyone was already tired of by 2000.

Vince originally wanted to have WCW be it's own show/brand. But Viacom didn't want more wrestling content on their networks.

This was in an Observer Rewind. WWF was actually going to purchase WCW in late 2000, and the show would continue to air on Turner tv. But Viacom nixed the deal because they had a new deal with WWF and didn't want them airing programming on a competing network.

Because Vince booked it like a child who held petty grudges. Because he is a child who holds petty grudges. The entire concept was to bury every WCW and ECW talent, and since he had no competition and held a monopoly, profit wasn't an issue. It was fucked up. The fallout was years of declining ratings when WWE should have been riding high.

Hindsight is everything. In hindsight, Austin's heel turn was a bad idea but it could have carried 2001 so for 2002, the WCW invasion kicks off for real. '02 would have been a full year of WCW vs WWF/E as the real stars people wanted would have been out of their contracts.

The worst part is WWE had the option to buy out all of those contracts, and the PPVs buys that Invasion did (even the bad version we got) would have been enough to cover those contract buyouts.

That's what they did. That's why Hogan, Nash, Hall, Steiner, and Goldberg all debuted in 2002-2003 after the Invasion.

they didnt. WCW was a dead brand by 2001. Vince was right to keep Hall, Nash, and Hogan at home, too. When they did jump none of the three lasted all that long. They weren't worth overpaying for.

Face Austin vs Goldberg happening during the invasion would have drawn insane dimes. All that would have needed to happen for it to not be shit was for vince to not treat the invasion as his personal victory lap (and better yet, not have the entire angle be centered around the same old trite mcmahon family drama)

There's more to it than that. Originally when they were gonna do the brand split, they wanted WCW to be the opposing brand, but there wasn't a single fucking network that wanted to be associated with WCW at that point. So it ended up just being RAW and Smackdown.
