There's a lot of biblical level prose and violence but it's all used to portray a message that isn't really all that complex or interesting. It feels like McCarthy was just trying his hardest to write an epic without a foundation.
I think most people that say the blood meridian is a great book never read it and just watched recaps on YouTube and thought the violence was cool
