Gone from a Raw tag team champion with Randy Orton to NJPW TV champion to now a world champion at an indie promotion in Michigan (he will be defending it this Thursday live on independentwrestling.tv if anyone wants to watch it). Definitely a long fall for Matt Riddle

yes but he's been doing shows with other promotions. Hell, he did the WrestleCon supershow back during WrestleMania weekend along with BCW's Born to Die the following day. As for why he's the champion in a Michigan-based promotion, here's your answer.

NJPW wanted to have Zack Sabre Jr. be the TV champion a second time. Matt Riddle essentially no selled the match and we have no explanation for it. However, Zack Sabre Jr. lost the title to Jeff Cobb at Wrestling Dontaku. almost a month later. Riddle reportedly is still scheduled for shows with NJPW but since it's coming from Dave Meltzer, take it with a grain of salt.

There's that and there's the interview he did after winning the belt where he talked about his fucking drug usage WITH the belt in frame (think about drug policies and optics in Japan), not to mention the domestic abuse allegations lingering.

Also worth noting is he immediately started defences against other TMDK stable members with his reign, so you could speculatee they either decided to work back to Zach and get it back on him really quickly or they were keeping it as an option they could go to at anytime.
