Nemeth says he wasn't fired from WWE involuntarily, was being set up to for a permanent backstage position but asked to get released several times because he wanted to do indie runs while he still physically can in the late stage of his active career.

That makes sense. He knows his in ring career is winding down, so rather than spend his last active years as a WWE jobber, he can big a big fish in a small pond main eventing TNA and on the indies and probably spend less time on the road.

The only way you can spin this is by saying the extra grind is going to put more miles on his body, but he's not working a retarded style that's likely to do significantly more damage at this point. Backstage is his fallback. He's always been upfront about wanting comedy and acting gigs and an indie/TNA schedule will let him do that while keeping him in the public eye for free on a smaller scale. It's not the dumbest plan, probably less money but someone else is paying him to pursue acting while he's still young.
