This. Nielsen ratings don't tell any of us fuck all about WWE or AEW and neither do the quarter breakdown graphs you're all a bunch of marks for. Maybe during the Monday Night Wars those things held more credence because there was only one way to watch. But today? I wouldn't be surprised if 40% of the views either promotion gets don't even come from television

HISTORICALLY it's only people who have Nielson boxes. However I believe that with the rise of digital, they actually are measuring much more. I'm pretty sure YouTubeTV and Hulu + Live TV are included in the ratings measurements. I think Xfinity's current cable box they give to people might measure viewership too, but I'm not 100%.

Yeah it used to be only the boxes, but they have other ways of gathering data now.

The fuck are you talking about? They have way better monitoring now with digital broadcasting. They can track numbers properly.
The extremely online cope about people watching illegal streams online is retarded. The whole point of TV viewership is to gauge the value of the TV show to the TV station and the TV advertising. The only numbers that matter for that are people watching on TV. There could be 200 million people watching globally on daily motion. That doesn't matter in respect to domestic TV viewership. Fucking retards on here spend all day crying about all of this insider numbers and buzzwords and none of you understand any of it.

Honestly who knows with how scattered everything is. Things that might get only a couple 100k views on youtube could be getting millions on instagram. Twitter is a whole different thing on top of that. I'd say as a whole though that yeah social media is likely far more telling than Nielsen ratings would be. A far wider range of people are on social media than have Nielsen boxes at least

You're making good points, but I'll also add that TV networks like USA and TNT all rely on carriage fees. They need people paying for cable packages (or streaming equivalents of cable packages) because they're getting a certain amount of money for every person who is getting that channel. Even if you're viewing illegally online and seeing ads, they're missing out on your monthly carriage fee, which is just as much, if not a bigger deal.

Yes, that's value to the network that can be assessed by TV viewers. The amount of money that the show is worth is based on the amount of money they can potentially bring in.
It's sort of like the are TV deal story. The actual story is whether or not they get a deal that can make them profitable, but the marks don't understand anything and argue about getting any deal at all.
