No it’s because they like working out but aren’t good at real sports, if they could play in a real sport they would but they’re not a real top tier athlete save for a D1 or Olympic champion whose only option is mma and even then they wouldn’t be very good, wrestlers were never good athletes else they’d be athletes

You have two routes.

The failed athlete will usually end up becoming the superior star due to their already established work ethic and raw talent that can molded to perfect ring psychology.

The nerd likely never focussed on developing their body for performance and instead spent time performing a gymnastics routine because it looked cool. Since they have been fans of pro-wrestling since childhood they will likely feel entitled and think they know everything about the business.

Don't forget back in the day wrestling was legit pretty much the same as being a construction worker, except you had slightly better chances at better pay if people really liked you. Might be why there were still guys trying their hand at it.

Some of us realise it’s all a work a lot sooner than most, and in doing so decide to work the workers. Fixed or not he would have made a huge amount of money, especially if he had Inoki and PRIDE management protecting him.
Him vs. Fedor or Cro Cop probably would never happen due to politicking but there are still a lot of crazy match ups he could have had.
