>>14827486The problem with modern wrestling isn't that it's athletic nor high speed. It's that no one bothers to sell, the fight psychology isn't there because none of the workers have ever been in a shoot fight, and the workers openly and obviously setup spots right in front of the crowd.
In short: there is zero regard for kayfabe. Whereas in the 50s and 60s, kayfabe was extremely important and you'd not just lose your job, you might have your legs broken by the boys. Look at the spot in OP. These guys are going out of their way to make it look legit. Sure, plenty of folks in the crowd knew it was a work even back in the 50s. But the wrestlers never let on, because that suspension of disbelief was vitally important, and even the smarts (not smark, those didn't exist) in the crowd would buy in to a particularly well done angle or spot.
Modern wrestling is the equivalent of a Deadpool movie, but everyone involved is Deadpool, winking at the camera, making snide remarks about how it's just a movie and it's all just for fun and none of it matters. Constantly. It's cringe personified. I fucking hate it.
