Tricks appeal is that he's a relatable Booker T 2.0 with big energy compensating for his short comings on the mic and ring. He's never the less pretty entertaining as a laid back black dude who talks funny.
The peak selling point of the Trick-Melo saga that got them as over as they are is that it went on for so long in NXT you got invested in them as characters and Trick earned the title through getting backstabbed and undermined by his bestie.
I can understand why you don't see it if you didn't follow it from at least the point where Trick got attacked by unknown assailant... who turned out to be Melo.
