>>14913159>>14917834Tenta is very underrated as a worker. He was a huge guy but he had good control of his body, very athletic, and was believable in everything that he did. He was a trained sumo wrestler after all. Apparently Vince had planned for the Hogan/Quake feud in the summer of 1990 to last longer than it did, leading up to a showdown at WrestleMania VII. But it was cut short due to the Iraq War and Vince pivoting to the Iraqi traitor angle with Sgt. Slaughter. It's a damn shame too. Earthquake was over as a face in his tag team with Typhoon, but he had to carry Typhoon, who was just not a good enough worker. And Tenta got injured in 93 so he never had the lengthy feud with Yokozuna that had been planned. Then WCW used him like crap, and upon his return to WWF, Vince put him in a gimp mask and made him a giant retard. Tenta STILL got over as fuck with the Oddities and as their most popular member by far. But it didn't last.
Tenta was only 27 during his feud with Hogan in 1990 btw. If the Iraq War hadn't have happened, or had Vince had more class, Tenta could have been made as a top guy for years at WrestleMania VII.
And I say all this as a fan of the bloody, patriotism filled Hogan/Slaughter match. But Earthquake would have had a much better match, and been a more believable opponent for the Hulkster. He could have even been a hired gun for Slaughter, an Iraqi WMD or some other nonsense. Slaughter had to be carried by Hogan. But Tenta would have held his own. That man could go!
