The last two are the Professors. They were a couple and the counterpart depending on the game left their family. The professor that stayed with their son/your friend later on wound up becoming obsessed with their work of ancient/robotic pokemon that they abandoned your friend as a child to live with a dog and then was killed by an angrier version of the box legendary of that game. They had an AI robot take its place to continue their work and then it realized that its creator wanted to release ancient/robotic Pokémon out into the world (these Pokémon would unironically destroy the world given how powerful and strong they are) and you are asked to stop the Professor's dream. (This whole part of the story was written by the dude who made Undertale).
