His drug test came back negative, so they tried rehiring him, and offered him a hall of fame spot as an "apology" (he deserves one anyway), he turned it down because he wanted to wrestle with his brother, and he doesn't want to go into the hall of fame without Matt.
It's really sad how Tony keeps fumbling established stars he can use to put over what he likes to call "younger homegrown talent", AEW is yet to make anyone who wasn't an ex WWE/NJPW a respected performer. The ones who aren't total self marks like Bryan Danielson and at times Chris Jericho have tried putting people over, but a random win over either of them isn't gonna do much for you if there is no follow up on character development. Does anyone even remembers what Action Andretti looks like? Remember when Daniel Garcia was dubbed the "dragon slayer" when he got a win over Bryan Danielson? That sure did wonders for their careers.
