WWE is not good in 2024. The booking is boring as fuck, the promo work is still robotic, and the in-ring style has become as homogenous as ever. The Performance Center sands down the intensity and individuality of the wrestlers who go through the system and most of the standout performers on the main roster today are veterans from a better era. And yeah, WALTER and Ilja and Iyo Sky have good matches. But everything feels so hollow compared to the wrestling of the past.

Because wrestling Armageddon just happened and passed without so much of a whimper. Vince McMahon and his cronies turned out to be absolutely everything that was wrong with WWE and getting rid of them DID turn out to make the product better. all of this happened within the span of a few months, with even Vince coming back briefly not affecting the change at all, and it has been a massive mindfuck to the IWC and wrestling industry. So much game-planning and doomsaying about a world without WWE and then when it happened it only resulted in WWE getting better and every other company getting worse.It is trippy basically seeing people who spent their entire lives hating WWE spin in the mud as WWE is now becoming all the things they said would've made them great. but instead of celebrating this they double down on their hatred.

I listen to a podcast (non-wrestling) where one of the co-hosts is a big wrestling fan and constantly brings it up whenever there's something tangentially related, and he would always talk about how great is to be able to support AEW and how evil WWE/Vince is. However, ever since Punk (formerly his favorite) returned to WWE, he's said that he's taking a break from wrestling, because it's not good for his mental health.

This is exactly true. AEW fan now has 5 years of footage to work with to make montages of the sickest moves, craziest bumps off a ladder, etc - and instead of doing any of that, they whine about Cody being champion, "Slopdown got cancelled", defend transsexuals, etc.

This really did break a lot of AEW fans. Punk was the face of the anti-WWE 'movement' for over a decade, something that became core to the identity of so many smarks.

If you mainly like wrestling for the in-ring action, WWE is still unwatchable unless it's a big match featuring a handful of people like Gunther and Gable. So that means mainly PPVs.

AEW, on the other hand, is booked like an absolute fucking circus but it still showcases wrestling much more on a weekly basis and has a lot of good workers. Japanese wrestling has a lot of options too.
So, /really/, it's more about what you like in wrestling, what you're looking for.
