>>14977342From what I can tell in about the 5 months I've been here, a lot of it has to so with the contradictory nature of wrestling itself (being presented as real when it's not), and people wanting so desperately to be seen as not or never having believed in it, pretending they know every aspect of the business/how a match goes, who's a bad worker, a good worker, what makes a good match, a bad match, endlessly clinging on to nostalgia and being extremely closed minded, shitting on other companies for reasons beyond me (either because they felt outcasted for liking said promotion and want to fight back or they legitimately duped themselves into being a cult-like fan for some reason), being unable to fully differentiate between when workers are shooting or working, believing "the real dirtsheets" like Cornette as word of god, preying on the downfalls of each worker for strange vendettas, parasocial relationships to dangerous degree, and many other things.
I will say that just like with every board, if you insist on having a good conversation, they'll usually comply. Especially in one like this where it's so bitter and everyone tries to be the smartest in the room, it can be refreshing to just have a serious convo.
At the end of the day, you're right, OP. Wrestling is ultimately harmless. It's not real. Personally, I think wrestling is "just okay/kinda shit". But I grew to have a strange attachment to it. I wonder if that can be called some form of love. And I think everyone else here feels the same way on some level. We all like and hate wrestling.
