>Well yea, everyone knows it’s fake by now, so why not lean into how fake wrestling is
Kek what a fucking idiot.
A lot of wrestling fans past the 1970s knew this shit was fake. Someone here posted a youtube clip of some journo interviewing people outside of the arena prior to WM3 and multiple people there mention it's fake or insinuate that they know it's fake etc. I can't find it but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about. Basically everyone but kids in the late 90s, wrestling's hottest period, knew that shit was fake and the numerous crowd signs tell you all you need to know. The difference is that the mentality of the wrestlers back then was largely different, even if they knew that the fans were "smart to the business" they still respected kayfabe and wanted to put on a good and realistic show. Most wrestlers who started in the late 90s and the 2000s, however, have that same reddit mentality of "IT'S LE FAKE SO IT MAY AS WELL BE A LE MEME XD" which is precisely why pro wrestling became an absolute joke and the ratings as well as its general popularity and reputation went down the fucking shitter.
