I don't care about Meltzer but the guy likes what he likes the same as everyone else.
He's also on record saying one star is fair, two stars is good, and three stars is should watch. The stuff he doesn't like at all gets a dud rating.
Three stars isn't bad.

The issue with Meltzer that he has awful taste in pro wrestling. Now in isolation that would be fine. But he's managed to work stupid marks in to thinking his opinion has value and his star ratings are legitimate. Even this wouldn't be a problem if it ended there. But some of these stupid marks are actual bookers and wrestlers, and they try to please Meltzer, which leads to them producing utterly terrible wrestling that virtually no one wants to watch. This is a problem.

I thought Omega/Ospreay 2 sucked (I literally fell asleep during it) but Dave gave it 6 stars.

might be a dipshit since i haven’t watched much wrestling since actual childhood, but i thought hogan was considered kind of a bad wrestler? i loved him as a kid so i’d be happy to hear that’s wrong, but i feel like i’ve heard so much bitching about him since i started seeing people’s actual opinions on the industry

yeah that’s fair, and i’ve seen people say his leg drop doesn’t feel devastating enough as a finisher which feels pretty silly. if you’re gonna believe all the finishers, a giant guy jumping and landing with “all his weight” on just his thigh against your head/throat feels a lot more devastating than shit like the ultimate warrior’s running splash

Also, Hogan *could* wrestle quite well. He just sort of knew that "good" wrestling really wasn't necessary in the US. But he trained in Japan and he could do a lot more than Americans ever saw.

Inflation is the reason for this.
Dave Meltzer is actually a massive Kurt Angle mark. Kurt is and always was literally everything Dave values in a wrestler, and if Kurt was around today he'd be doing Will Ospreay numbers in the Observer.
It's funny how much Dave praises WWE now compared to back then, though. Dave is as gay for Cody Rhodes as he is for Will and Kenny these days
