He had to have known. Punk was like 35 when he signed and had no experience, and everyone who knows even a little bit about MMA said that's way to old to get to the level of UFC guys. sure, instead of getting tapped out in 30 seconds he'll survive 35. see, the thing about UFC is that it's the ultimate armchair sport. while watching it, it's easy to say "oh i would have done that" or "i saw that punch coming a mile away, i'd set up a counter" etc. but when you're actually in a fight, it's a different world. it takes years of experience to get to the level required to compete at a UFC level.
