>>15004248My take is a pivot from yours --- too many top AEW stars who refuse to work safer styles, allowing them to work every single week instead of 20-25 matches per year. Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, Young Bucks.....NONE of them have wrestled 35+ matches in a year since 2018. Ospreay has a 70+ streak going for several years but will be lucky to hit 50 this year. What will next year look like?
"Chasing Meltzer Stars" has real world consequences. When fans are paying to go to Dynamite to see all the stars, and only 2/7 of their favorites have a match, it causes animosity. The next time AEW is in town, you have fans thinking the same thing CM Punk was saying to Helwani: "Guys would rather cut promos instead of work matches, so why should I pay to go to the show?"
4 minute matches, DQs, Count Outs, No Contests may seem like a Fuck You to the audience, but it's better than 0 minute matches with 0 appearances by your favorites. Not every top matchup needs to be built up as a trilogy or first time or long build-up, just make the fucking match-ups.
Jay White vs Orange Cassidy, just because you fucking feel like it. If you don't want to beat Jay, then have it end in a DQ after 6 minutes and everyone getting their taunts, signatures and finisher in. Revisit it after the PPV or a month down the road. It's not this fucking complicated, IT'S REALLY NOT.
