Watching an Attitude Era RAW and it's crazy what a backseat the actual wrestling takes to everything else. Every match doesn't matter because it ends in some sort of run in or schmozz. The actual matches aren't the object of focus as they'll always have someone from DX or whomever come down to the commentary booth and totally distract from the match. The stuff in the ring is just filler until you get to the next promo segment.
