I don't think it worked out how Tanahashi wanted because Mox barely appeared on any NJPW show leading up to the title defence against Naito, and part of the story was literally Naito saying that their champion has pulled a Roman. The interest for NJPW is at its lowest worldwide since probably 2016-2017, they might have still had an okay year financially because they got rid of some big contracts, still the booking is still so dreadful their popularity is not gonna recover, especially since they are desperately trying to get attention from americans and that automatically means shit booking choices that the japanese audience won't care about.
