This is the same guy who booked Homeless Sami Lame to beat Gunther clean at WrestleMania XL, books only 5 matches per pay-per-view (stretched across 3 hours so we have annoying vignettes about already well established Wrestlers and repetitive advertisements courtesy of Nick Khanman), books two Title matches in a week (one on Raw and SmackDown) BEFORE MITB as opposed to putting them on the card, and keeps making both Chad Gable and Drew McIntyre lose.

That interview was from 2017 about a conversation he had in 2014, 2014 was a year he was on with Wrestling. He 'officially' retired from in-ring competition after Tripshit brought him back exclusively to beat and embarrass him at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. I think at that point people still thought that Avengers was going to be the peak of MCU, and it was downhill from there. Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2 all did pretty well (though Thor 2 was widely agreed to be the worst thing they'd ever produced), and Guardians of the Galaxy just seemed too goofy for mainstream audiences, what with having a talking raccoon and a tree on the team, and even the non-goofy characters were completely unknown outside of comic fans. It was a fairly common take at the time that Guardians would be Marvel's first bomb.
