>>15136178Nope. Dave used to actually enjoy wrestling. The death of WCW, followed by the death of Misawa, broke him. The Observer is just a business to him now, and I've long suspected that he gets paid by some of his favorites for higher star ratings (it's the only way I can explain the Young Bucks having so many 5+ star matches when they're dogshit). Dave has been caught numerous times doing writeups for matches that never even happened, so how many more did happen but Dave never watched?
Bret/Austin at SvS was excellent and for me, I'd go as high as 4.75. I loved that match almost as much as their match at WrestleMania.
>>15136193I've been watching wrestling since the mid 1980s. I don't need Dave to guide me to good matches, especially since Dave was biased even back when he used to enjoy wrestling. A few examples being his hatred for Hogan (who was actually a good worker, not great but good), and how much he underrated Randy Savage. And as much as I like Flair, Dave had a tendency to grade Flair on a curve (kind of a reverse Macho Man).
While Cagematch does drastically overrate modern matches as part of the console war mentality of today, it is a fantastic resource for old school matches, and generally better than Dave since you get an aggregate of many wrestling fans and you can read different opinions about the matches.
It's easy to forget because of how much he is talked about, but Meltzer is nothing more than a wrestling fan. He is not part of the industry. He is not an insider. He doesn't have any special understanding of how pro wrestling works that any other viewer can't attain by watching a lot of matches. Dave is not any sort of authority on what is good or bad.
