Consider all of Wrestling. Lots of variables. Technique, writing, Fan involvement.
But one element that is certain is that it's also a visual product.
The costumes, the intros, the camera angles, the lights.
This is sacred. It is. The attention to detail to design principles has always been constant with the WWE. Say what you want about Vince; he knew the importance of something to look good from across the room.
Picture a wedding dress with ads plastered on it. A coffin. A crucifix.
Icons and symbols are important to society. A pure square ring with solid lines across the black background is iconic.
Now, in hundreds of years, we will see an advert for a company long forgotten.
Picture going back to see the classic matches and see a huge logo for Kodak?
It's a small detail for many of you, but consider how few live performances we get in this age. I'm pretty sure Wrestling is the only major live performance these days.
Think about the meeting with Endeavor. "We don't care about the integrity of the product. The more we can manipulate your stock to give us as much money as possible, the better. Who cares about the long-term issues? Who cares if the will only increase revenue by 1%. Nothing is sacred apart from what makes me money."
And it's not just here. Every episode of The Bear has some focus on a brand-new stock of Apple Products. Every one. Scenes that would have felt better with actors in a room were replaced with stiff phone calls.
If you disagree then I leave you with this:
Think about having a nice home cooked meals with someone you love
If we aren't careful, one day we will be ok with eating paste that has the "home cooked" smell.
RIP to the era of visual purity in television
