He is not at a blue belt level yet and when his whole gimmick is "I'm shoot tough" it all falls apart when he's taking L's against newbies.
I've done BJJ for 15 years now and there is a weird phenomenon where people always under-report how long/hard they've trained if they're competitors, and over-report how long/hard they've trained if they're not competitive anymore. You get wrestlers who have wrestled since they were 6 and are now 18 and out of high school trying to enter no-gi white belt tournaments and they balk at me telling them they have to enter at at least blue belt, preferably purple. "But I've only done this for 6 months." No, you're a sandbagging medal collector and that's fucking cringe.
There's also an issue with nerves in combat sports that people don't understand. Some people feel absolutely zero anxiety when doing combat sports and massively overperform at low levels. Some people completely fucking shut down when put in competitions. We have guys who fucking obliterate our 3-time master's worlds blue-purple-brown champion in the practice room who BADLY lose local blue belt comps. Performing under pressure can be taught but some people can just never get it.
