The next 5 days decide AEW's fate.

Nowhere did I say it was. TNT has to decide to match one of the offers already on the table. Either they find the cash to do so or they don't. Whether or not AEW is renewed and for how much is affected by this.

It's really funny that the supposed "good guys" did what WWE was (according to them) trying to do yet couldn't and killed the indies. They took the top indie promotion that they took 1/3 of their roster from and turned it into AEW Dark with belts, they killed the super indie they took another 1/3 of their roster from. Now AEW is going to die and there's nowhere for anyone to go because AEW has decimated the indie scene.

Tony has actually made WWE's talent program seem even more valid and forward thinking. People laughed at the NIL deals and trying to convert athletes to wrestlers. But given the way Tony has fucked the economics of the indy scene it's far cheaper to pay the NIL deals to a bunch of college kids and see who pans out, than get into a bidding war every talent that gets a name on indy scene. You have more control over their health and style, and Shawn has proven he can give these guys gimmicks and see what sticks. It also still allows WWE to snipe the talent from other feds they do want. At this point WWE can sit and decide to match an offer or not. They get no bad PR for not doing so either.

They're doing a revamp at CNN, so layoffs are expected, especially when they mentioned using AI more. So I don't think think they'll go too far over price when submitting their offer. So we'll see how that goes.

The problem is if they don't retain the NBA they lose a huge revenue stream for the price they value their viewers by to advertisers. They lose something like 6 billion. So they owe about 43 billion, but they can't stand to lose that 6 billion of revenue. They're going to match that Amazon bid no matter what it is. I'm sure Amazon poison pilled their offer knowing that.

It's a carousel. If you missed out on the NFL and MLB buffet you're left with this and hockey. Then you convince yourself by comparing those two that the NBA is better, and worth spending on.
