Saying wild stuff does work. See Lavar Ball, Stephen A. Smith and others. It doesn't mean it's high quality, truthful or more legit than your uncle saying the same things.
There's no official way to judge how good a match is. We all like and don't like different matches. Sometimes, you need to see a a whole feud play out to get the idea of a match. Not everyone can do that and often someone who has seen none of the build will try to shut up someone who has.
Dave had a lot of legitimacy at one time. He had a small niche audience and time/availability were on his side. If he saw some good Japanese match, it would take others months to get it and by the time they made their own call, everyone had moved on to 10 other matches. That's not the case in 2024. We can see stuff before Dave does. And when he says some match is awesome, we can debate it on the spot. One would think Dave would be more careful about what he says, but he's less careful, giving larger ratings than ever to various matches. He also has obvious personal connections with people like The Bucks and Tony that make his ratings seem biased.
Dave also isn't doing a good job in keeping up with footage like he used to. There's a lot more content than there used to be and he has not expanded his coverage. This causes him to not see shows from some promotions at all and to not see various wrestlers, making him unreliable on a lot of topics.
