If late 90s/early 00s WWF had the chance to go up against modern WWE, could it succeed? It has the same resources, ratings, infrastructure, talent, etc as they had at that time, but modern WWE has the same things as it currently has them.

Assuming networks would actually carry it, then yes Attitude Era WWF would dominate even more today, because there would be nothing on television, or even in theaters, that is as edgy as Raw from that time period.

Plus there are far more stars in WWF from that period. Someone like Cody Rhodes can't compete with the star power of Steve Austin, for example. And what really matters in pro wrestling success, is star power.

I'm not so sure if it's that simple though. Modern WWE is massive compared to AE WWF. It might not need to win on TV when it can win by sheer scale of business operations. I say this as someone who grew up with the AE.

Attitude/ruthless would make modern wwe look like gayew. Real stars and edgy programming would attract way more viewers. I think modern fans seriously underestimate how important the star factor was back then. You had Rock and Austin getting earth shattering pops on random ass episodes of Raw. People actually bought tickets to see wrestlers rather than support the machine like today. And whether you agree with edgy shit or not, it just sells. Look at the click/rage bait edgy culture we currently live in. Attitude era would thrive right now.

I really don't think so. I mean I agree that the left would cry on social media but eventually they would give up because real life people would be buying tickets and watching the show. That's really all it's going to take is for some company to just be willing to bet on the fact that social media is not real life. Do that and we could be normal again.

AE would do well because modern E is so sanitized and safe and corporate. but AE was just so much a product of its time. it would win but certaintly not as mainstream as when it happened

The thing that matters in wrestling success is meshing with the pop culture zeitgeist. It’s what WWF did during Hulkamania in the 80s and then later during the Attitude Era in the edgy late 90s/00s
Wrestling will be big when it meshes with the big pop culture of the 2020s, probably via TikTok
