Like most AEW originals, wrestling was meant to be a hobby, something he did for fun, so he could his stunts and show his friends the video so they could be like"whoah Adam, you're crazy dude."
He's just there to bilk and milk Tony. He doesn't want to put in the effort to get better or even maintain his mediocrity.

Hangman kept doing these long delaying segments during Picture in Picture ads (and there were a ton of them) and still regularly missed big bumps.
