Out of curiosity, how many WWE fans might know about Hangman? AEW's peak ratings/segment was somewhere around 1.5M viewers. Surely there was an overlap at some point however brief it was.

Unironically make "self-proclaimed locker-room leader" his gimmick. Have him try mentoring people only to give them useless advice and turn on them. Put him in a tag match with his mentor against another team (probably involving Priest, McIntyre, or Rollins) and have Punk be kayfabe injured during the match, and his apprentice runs out of the ring to check on him which gets them both DQ'd. Phil loses his shit and starts punching him.

Punk beats a triple threat against Rollins and McIntyre for the title at Survivor Series, cuts a promo inviting himself into Cody's alliance against the Bloodline saying he'll even put his belt on the line for Cody to win it, he has to prove himself at Royal Rumble 1v1 for Cody to accept him, he wins.
Then between RR and Mania, Punk betrays Cody and they have a return match at Mania. 2 out of 3 falls, 60 minute time limit just like the old ways had it. Except there's interference from the Bloodline, Drew, Rollins, everybody.
Cody wins to retain the title.
