Ring of Honor started off with a body guy as champion and quickly they realized Low Ki was more over along with all the guys coming out of Shawn's school. So they pushed cruiserweight similarly to ECW but these guys could actually work and took crazy bumps. Indie wrestling didn't really get the way is is now until PWG and then GCW.

It's a prime example of why so many people call Tony a money mark that doesn't know how to manage a business. He overpaid for what was ostensibly a dead company just because he didn't want the tape library and whatever loyal players they had left going to WWE or TNA (who both would have made better use of said tape library btw)

Rob Feinstein was fired from ROH in 2004, AJ Styles literally kept making appearances afterwards up until 2006, all while he was also contracted to TNA
Then he returned to ROH in 2014 while being a New Japan wrestler as well

said. Go back and watch Tajiri and Super Crazy. Yeah they do some cool moves but there's really shit for story telling there and it's just who can one up one another in the spotfest. It becomes uninteresting rather fast and you start realizing that the guys that can give actual promos and do good in ring psychology have a lot more enjoyable matches.

RoH just built off this bullshit which also worked its way into TNA.

While this is mostly true, I would say that the thing that separates ECW smarks from modern ones is that ECW still at least expected people to look and feel like badass wrestlers. Even midgets like Taz had "aura" or whatever the fuck you wanna call it.
