Pence was there to sell the evangelical vote and give his campaign a sense of normalcy. Anyone saying Pence didn't help him in 2016 is nuts. Trump mainly won in 2016 because a combination of low turnout and the moderates that he was able to convince.
Pence never hurt his campaign. Vance does because he has that smug shit that usually comes from Democrats because he's a crypto/technocrat guy.

And again, primaries aren't the same as general. She has 14 opponents in a primary and is a former AG. No shit, she wasn't going to win there. In a General, she has one guy she's facing, who is already not likable and she has the facet that Republicans unwillingly campaigned for her because they made age a huge issue in this election and she happens to be 18 years younger than Trump.
This shit is not complicated. The same polls Trump was winning that people posted now show pivots towards Kamala, but now those are astroturfed? The general consensus of the election was "Ugh, I gotta vote for one of these guys" They were both unlikable. I'm not saying Kamala isn't either, but her age and the pivot towards her shows a different direction which ignited the base.
Most importantly, Trump would not be fucking chimping out this hard over it. The first day she got in, I thought "Oh Trump has this in the bag" but once I saw she raised all that money and the general shift in tone (in real life and online) I knew she was gaining momentum. Again, TRUMP GOT SHOT and it's barely a story at this point. He should be polling way higher but he isn't.
Kamala has all the momentum right now. Trump doesn't really have any plays. That's why he accepted the debate because that's basically his last shot and Kamala sucks at speaking.
