Obviously it's not exactly like Rock and Austin but they're the same in the sense that when these two meet it will always be a big deal. Something they kept trying and failing with Roman and Brock.

I have a feeling it's Roman. They're probably going to do an original Bloodline vs new Bloodline match at Survivor Series. The Rock will get involved (if he's not already in the match) and cause Roman to lose, setting up for Rock vs Roman at WrestleMania, with Roman as the face and The Rock doing his Final Boss heel gimmick.

Nothing has been closer to Austin V Rock than this. Cena had multiple rivals like Edge, Orton and Punk, but none of them managed to become a parallel to Cena, just a feud of the month for the face of the company. Roman and Cody could go to different brands and carry them, and when their paths cross again it'll become a big thing.

Rock and Austin are LEAGUES better on the mic than both Roman and Cody but they have rock and Austin beat in almost every other metric such as dimes looks, in-ring work, health, outlook on the business, etc. Roman does have cancer that’s in remission but Austin did have a broken neck and rock has everyone beat in terms of being dimes

There is no chemistry between the two. Cody was pushed for no reason other than to bury AEW. There is no story to these two. Cody has no character and comes across as the biggest phony, sociopath, but is somehow the face. His matches suck because he has one of the worst collections of moves imaginable. Cody can't promo. He strangely makes Roman look like a true legend.

The reason it didn't really work with Brock, is that Brock is larger than life. He doesn't even fit in the modern product. He looks and acts too legitimate. Everyone knows Brock could murder Roman in about 30 seconds if he wanted to. And yet Roman was presented as the world beater. On a gutteral level, people knew it was bullshit. It broke kayfabe. All the interference became a joke too. The Usos were never a threat to Brock either. He could have squashed the Bloodline.

Brock would be a top star in any era. Roman and Cody are top stars now, but wouldn't crack the top of the card back in the Attitude Era nor the Golden Era due to much stiffer competition. They compliment each other better, and Roman gets to take the spot as the one to be intimidated by, which fits his gimmick best. Nobody was buying Roman not being intimidated by Brock. Their feuds were kayfabe breaking.

And yet the WrestleManias that everyone remembers are 3, 6, 14, 17, 18. The business dropped off hard after that and fell out of the mainstream. Nobody considers Rock/Cena to be on the level of Rock/Austin or Hogan/Rock or Hogan/Andre or Hogan/Warrior.

No, they don't, anon. Because back during the Hogan/Andre feud, every young kid at least knew about the big stars in wrestling. Wrestling was mainstream. Today, most kids are watching streamers or playing Fortnite. Pro wrestling is more niche today that it ever has been. The US population is thankfully so large that even a niche industry can thrive. But you really can't compare Hogan/Andre to Rock/Cena.

Kek, no he isn't. Starring in big budget flops doesn't put him at the level Hogan was at in the 80s. You really did have to live it. At that time, Hulk Hogan was at the level of Michael Jordan a few years later, as in EVERYBODY knew Hogan and that includes the world. Hogan was huge everywhere. Nobody has hit that level since.

WM now is watched by way more people than ever before thanks to streaming and WWE is seen by more people worldwide than ever before. Sure, by capita in US it probably isn't as big, but you can say the same thing about territories being watched by more per capita where they aired, since over 25 percent of the population in the area would watch the popular ones. Whatever's biggest to young people is probably always going to be whatever is the latest.

WWE has an awful habit of running shit in to the ground: Cena/Orton was astroturfed to be the Rock/Austin of that generation, and they tried as hard as possible to brute force it with endless matches but it just wasn't that good and fans picked up on how forced it felt.
but now, fans aren't sick of Cody yet and Reigns was away long enough for people to miss him. we'll see if they handle it right or if they overexpose it. do they have the balls to do Cody vs. Roman at three consecutive Manias? maybe have another "biggest match of all-time" with the WHC and Undisputed belts getting unified?

It will never make sense why Cena/Edge didn't main event Mania 22 or 23, nor Cena/Orton 24 or 25.
I can get CM Punk vs Cena not happening because of the Rock returning, but still. It was the time to do it at 29, make Rock wrestle Taker. You should always elevate the current talent at the Main Event.
It's like putting Austin vs Randy Savage headlining Mania 15. I can get behind something like Rock/Hogan main eventing one year like it could in 2002, but not a B+ talent like HHH or HBK or Undercarder stealing the spotlight time and time again.
See how people are more invested now in Cody instead of a part timer like Brock.

It's a crying shame they didn't do more with this rivalry. They always had good matches, both were insanely over, and their characters were just the perfect foil for one another. Punk could have and should have been Cena's nemesis.
