Other than fake scripted accolades, what has he ever really done? Was he ever a draw? Did anyone want to be HBK? Were sons proud to emulate the gay stripper on TV in front of their fathers?

Nothing to do with his booking of NXT, everything to do with the association it has with WWE. If his promotion wasn't looked at as WWE early access, it would be about as successful as the Texas Wrestling Alliance was.

This is literally one of the biggest failings of modern wrestling. But we're seeing Haitch move away from this model and it's been helping WWE. Roman, Cody, Gunther, Drew, Reed, Priest, Knight, none of these guys are trying to emulate HBK. Now if only he could end his obsession with Rollins...

This is WWE fanfiction. Shawn's first run had Bret Hart on nearly every card, and almost every time it was Bret that had the best match. Then in his second run he was older and worn down, and had to share the card with guys like Benoit, Eddie, and Angle.

Shawn was consistently outshined by better workers though. His presentation as a returning legend is what carried him and helped him elevate others. In terms of in ring ability, he was a few steps below guys like Benoit, Eddie, Kurt, and Rey. I'd even put Jericho over Shawn during this period.
