Are you talking about NJPW? They run a touring house show product. It's not expected that you watch every event, it's expected that you only watch the big ones if any. They can't tell weekly stories because they don't have a weekly show. It doesn't work that way.
Are you talking about weekly TV show wrestling, which is basically just an American thing copied from WWE at this stage? That's a much different thing where you are making a weekly TV show and expecting people to watch every week so you need to pace out stories for engagement and make them coherent to retain viewers.
These are different things.
There is no wrestling without story, that makes no sense. Each promotion itself is an ongoing story from the first show until their final show, containing the stories of individual carries that overlap and crossover.
