I think this is probably the best answer. I don't think even the most hardcore AEW fans can pretend that AEW is consistently good. But the parts they enjoy carry them through the parts they don't.

It's true. I watch seven hours of WWE every week because I'm such a big fan. Three nights a week, plus about a weekend a month there's a PLE. That's a lot of wrestling. I want to do other things with my life too. They say "WWE fans are brainwashed to only care about WWE." No, I only watch WWE because it's my favorite wrestling show and I don't want to dedicate the time to following NJPW too.

But even if I didn't have to go to work and could watch more wrestling, I still wouldn't watch AEW.

Okay, I'm gonna give you an actual serious response to this.

If you look at the consistently falling TV ratings, you will see that more and more people are starting to just stop watching because clearly they don't like it. You can claim it's your taste is different and that's totally fine, you're allowed to like whatever you want to like, but there has to come a point where it's time to accept that something has to change if you want the company to stay around for a long time.

I could meme about TV deals and all that, but really think about it.

A fucking preseason nfl game managed to get 4.63 million viewers and you guys struggle to even get 700k, when wrestling was at its peak, wwe and WCW were both getting viewer numbers actively competing with Monday night football, and your show is on on a day when there's pretty much literally nothing else on. Stop gatekeeping your show and learn to accept criticism that the majority of people are starting to think your show sucks.

The personalities appeal more to me, there's a decent variety each week, and I prefer the balance of wrestling to promo more. Even if the matches can be predictable there's always this feeling of anything may happen botch or not kek.

In many ways, lots of people should be thanking Tony for turning "wrestling fans" into WWE fans. For WWE, it means fuller shows, more revenue, greater opportunities, travelling the world doing sold out shows......and for AEW, it means your cult culls the weaker members who aren't down with the program and won't drink the Flavoraid when Dear Leader says it's time. Win-Win.

Yeah I enjoy it when I occasionally watch wrestling. It has its faults but at least the matches themselves are enjoyable to watch. One thing that can be both good and bad for them is that they seem to let the wrestlers run with their own ideas, which is great for people who know what they are doing, but terrible for the ones who don't. There is still that ongoing problem of Tony Khan making big announcements for things that aren't that special.

I know you didn't want to discuss WWE but I am only going to do so for a comparison. WWE has its flaws too but it has perfected the TV show format. I can watch a random episode of Raw after not watching it for months and I will know what the feuds are and why, as well as a good recap of what happened previously in those feuds. AEW barely gives a new watcher context on whats going on with their product, which is why you can see viewership drop. If you stop watching for a few months and try to get back into it, its tough to figure out whats going on with everyone.

You could possibly scrounge together a compelling sounding point if you'd stick to facts, at least then you could try to spin them in your favor.

You look at Dynamite versus Raw, it's clear who's lost more viewers since AEW became a thing. Until that fact changes, there's really not much point discussing ratings.
