>>15602531It's worth remembering that all of the talk about AEW's rights deal centred around the fact that AEW runs at a loss. Meltzer was arguing with people that AEW makes money, then lsotbthose arguments and walked it back and started saying that they WILL make a profit when they get a rights increase. No further details. Tony Khan also was saying the same thing. The internet tribalism idiots don't understand anything and started arguing about them getting a deal at all, but they were always going to be renewed. The question is whether or not they can generate a profit. Notice how none of them mention profit at all because any deal they can realistically get will not be enough to offset their operating costs. And yet they word these announcements like it's a big, personal win. There's I herent bias in the reports about AEW rights deals vs any other company. No "journalist" was speaking with excitement and cope about MLW or NWA negotiating for TV, or any WWE or TNA deal. But AEW is finalising a pretty unremarkable agreement that keeps them exactly where they are and the media spin is written as if it's the greatest moment in wrestling history.
They're not going to profit. They're getting what they already have with more money in but it's offset by the increased spending that the company continues to make. They're wasting a lot of the marketing efforts to publicise a TV deal to extremely online, existing fanboys instead of trying to expand their viewership and casual and prospective viewers won't and shouldn't about TV contract negotiations. Why don't they publicise their active stories and characters? Because they spend all of their energy engaging with stupid, tribal talking points instead of making a good TV show and the interest in the shows declines as a result.
