Physically all of his back problems and injuries got worse after that fight and he's said that even though he won he felt in the long run he was more fucked than Takayama who lost. He can't walk properly anymore and claims to be in pain all the time.

There was no insisting. NJPW held a tourney for the right to face Inoki in his retirement match and Inoki picked Frye to win that tourney and face him. Frye in his own words said he was honored to do Inoki's retirement match.
