You're attributing a level of cunning to Tony that he doesn't posses. I think WBD is waiting until the very last second so they can make the best possible evaluation of AEW's ratings and chart their trajectory over this next 5 years. This will probably end in AEW getting canceled.

Extreme business cunning by Tony to wait until the last minute when all other networks have all their programming decided and AEW has nowhere to go and can only stay with WBD for an extremely low amount. No major networks just have hours of empty primetime that they fill in last minute. There is also no news of other networks looking into AEW. They are most likely fucked.
