Peak classic hardcore for me is a sloppy Foley brawl where he gets hit with fucking potatoes and hardwayed by a big meaty motherfucker slamming his fist into his face.
This is all to say I think the former has it's place, but it's as a dumb fun pacebreaker. Like an attitude era hardcore title match where it's clearly silly. It doesn't come across as legitimately violent to be, and those involved are dweebs for trying to appear as such, so I don't buy it as a blood feud
