More people eat at McDonalds than In-n-Out. More people watch mindless summer blockbusters than movies with actual merit. More people shop at Walmart than their local high end grocery store. More people use Windows than Linux. Appealing to the lowest common denominator always sells better than catering to higher standards, especially if you have the means to market your product. And companies that do so always turn a better profit.
Just acknowledge to yourself that you prefer mediocre crap tailored to the masses over quality. Or don't, because we know.
