This makes sense. AEW used to target the legit open-minded "smark" fan, but after the first few years those fans got replaced by or turned into dumber, more closed-minded and tribalistic marks for the AEW brand while the original "smarks" grew increasingly tired of the bullshit
I think what a lot of people initially wanted from AEW was a modern version of WCW but with NJPW and ROH guys, and when it ended up being PWG booked by a Vince Russo mark it was like the worst of all worlds

Fanatics are people who identify as liking the company and watch it obsessively. They are a tiny percentage of any total viewers. Casual viewers (people who will watch the show but not religiously because they have lives) are the majority audience and if the show is bad or not compelling then you lose them.
