>>15810210I used to drink really fucking hard. For years. Then I decided to quit. Went about as long as you did.
Then I decided I could have a beer or two here and there. On a limited basis. So what I did was I established a daily routine based on not drinking. In the evenings, I focused on coding because I had to be sober to do it. Drinking was just a fun thing to do here and there, not something to become routine. When I drank, I drank slow and limited myself to lower-strength beers.
I've reached a point in my life where I still drink on occasion but generally choose to leave it rather than have a drink. Drinking just makes me feel sick and hungover in the morning. It's fun on occasion. I love a good beer or whiskey. But most nights I don't care to drink it.
The key is establishing a habit of not drinking and making that your norm. Three months -- you've more than done that. So look at those drinks you had as "having some drinks." Don't beat yourself up over them. Return back to your new baseline - not drinking. Don't go back to your old normal.
It ain't easy but it can be done. Cultivate good habits so you can still enjoy a drink here and there thirty years from now.
