I'm not denying Phil is a prick but don't you think it's funny that throughout his entire career, he has a reputation for being difficult in ROH, being difficult in AEW but for ultimately doing what he was told in WWE and when both sides couldn't agree on his direction, instead of being a whining baby on Twitter or going on the TNA "they held me down!!" revenge tour, he simply left the industry and didn't talk about it for almost a decade? It's almost as if, for all their obvious (usually sex offence related) faults, the people running the show in WWE are grown-ups and not marks.

Funny how, "AEW being a draw" coincided with, "making Punk the top guy in perpetuity."
He wanted to be WCW/TNA Hogan and a large segment of the locker room didn't want that.

I don't think he's a bad guy, just somewhat self-serving. It's pure headcanon, but part of me suspects he and Jack Perry staged their little feud to get Jack over and, if true, I think that little worked shoot would have been Punk's idea all the way.

The fact of the matter is, he was the most protected, most successful guy in the roster for his time there. There was barely a match he wasn't dominant in, he got title shots and title runs time and again in spite of being an injury-prone botch machine, he was even given the rudder of a show after he had instigated a backstage brawl that put an end to several title runs on grounds of suspension. This guy doesn't give a flying fuck about the company he's in or the business he was supposedly helping, and it wasn't even his place, as a nostalgia piece being paid a ridiculous sum of money, to complain about how the guy paying his debts and getting no ratings for it runs his show.
