Check how many homes Raw was watched in during 1999 and see how many it is today. The only people watching WWE today are people who are already wrestling fans. Wrestling absolutely transcended that bubble and became a part of pop culture in the late 90s/early 2000s. Wrestling fans watched. Casual fans watched. Non fans altogether still knew about it. It was inescapable in 1999. Today doesn't even come close to that no matter how much money it makes or how many sponsorships it has or however much you hope and pray it does

Except the point I was making was that all of the money in the world doesn't mean shit in terms of the quality of the product or how popular it actually is beyond the scope of wrestling fans. Nowhere once did I say they aren't doing good business right now. They're doing unreal business. But that only means so much outside of the pockets of executives. The only real thing it means for fans is jacked up ticket prices. I'm still not sure why we're here celebrating corporations and shareholders gaining record profits as if it benefits fans in any way

You're seriously using cable TV ratings in 2024 to gauge "cultural relevance"? Cable is now 1/4 of viewing. The youtube and social media metrics are off the charts for WWE - a very large percent of the man millions have to be casual fans. Like it or not, tiktok is more "culturally relevant" than USA Network ever was. Highlight clips are perfect for younger generations (or older generations who long ago gave up on 3 hours Raws), and WWE has mastered this. The numbers are all there.

Even if they are, that's not how inflation works. TV deals are much larger than ever before, for example. You cannot "track" that with inflation adjustment. NBA is also signing record money deals yet nobody is going to deny its popularity has dwindled hugely since the Jordan days.
