Not having a player's union to advocate for their interests is absolutely crippling. Wrestlers have never been able to collectively bargain, to negotiate with their contractors as a whole.
If you knew anything about ANY real sport, you'd understand how important that is and how direct the correlation between large pay jumps and union pressure is.
It took multiple prolonged legal battles for the MLB Player's Association to even get Free Agency on the books with the owners but once it happened, everybody's pay went up dramatically.
