Realism. They didn't do stupid stuff like no selling and the fight moves looked like something you'd see in a real fight. They didn't do ridiculous angles that only redneck fucks would want to see. Pro-wrestling looked like real fights. They avoided doing anything that appeared too over-the-top.

This, also unlike LolCenaWins. People underappreciate that Hulk always portrays his opponent as a major threat going into the big match. He would sell them as a physical monster going in or a major betrayal & emotionally and psychologically disadvantage going in.

You didn't see him wrestle much most of his TV appearances were him building the match for the next PPV.
outside of that you only saw him wrestle at house shows.
most matches back int he 80s were all squash matches on TV
