The crowd would have given an actual reaction instead of them having to cue music and shit. For the show to cut right back to Owens watching it all backstage presented like anything else on the show was extremely jarring and only made it feel even more like a skit
My guess is after the fans hijacked things with Cody and Rock that this is how they're going to be presenting a lot of this story going forward. It eliminates the crowd entirely and lets them just do whatever they're going to do with it. Especially if they bring the Rock back into it. Feels like any other Fast and Furious movie bullshit
