I'm pretty sure that what happened was that his wife was about to have a baby just as his contract was expiring, so he let it expire, spent some months with his family and then came back
during this time Adam Cole even did the same as Ospreay did this year with Ricochet, going into business for himself and saying that Gargano should sign with AEW so they could fight again

How does that work anyway? Say Adam Smol signed a 3 year contract for X amount of $$$ paid weekly over 3 years.

He gets injured, so he sits at home, still collecting those weekly checks. But time is being added to his contract, say 1 year, and Tony now has to pay him for a total of 4 years instead of 3 at his contracted wage?
