>>15944502>kickstarting of the Attitude Era?That was more Steve Austin, but Bret was the new face because he was the opposite of Hulk Hogan, and all of the guys that Vince tried to replace Hogan with. Bret was a real wrestler, with a believable physique, and a real knowledge and love for the sport, as opposed to Hogan and all of the Hogan-lite's who were just juiced up big guys made to sell tickets. His athleticism, in ring awareness, creativity, believability, etc were unmatched. After the steroid trial, Vince needed someone like him to take things in a new direction, and he absolutely did. Everyone who worked with Bret, whether it be Steve Austin, Undertaker, even Shawn Michaels, or any of those Attitude Era guys, all say that working with Bret elevated them. He knew how to make people stars by having great wrestling matches, proving that wrestling in and of itself could be entertaining. Go watch Bret vs Mr Perfect, or Bret vs Stone Cold at Wrestlemania - the quality of matches like those is unmatched compared to the shit they do today. He wasn't exaggerating in the slightest when he said he was an artist.
