He wasn't, though. WWE were never going to pay this jabroni. It's just the usual thing - people in AEW use "WWE interest" to work Tony into overpaying them. It works every time.

you know cornhole has straight up said Vince used to take meetings with guys he didn't intend to sign and then give them fake offersheets with whatever amount they wanted on them to force other feds to overpay talents. Like cornhole straight up said he did that with the midnight express, went to see vince to get a bigger payday for his guys even though vince was never going to sign them.

Tony Khan on the WrestleDream media call confirmed he's happy to extend Daniel Garcia’s contract to keep him in AEW for many years.

Tony also says that he understood why Garcia wanted to take the time to make such an important decision. He considers DG a homegrown AEW star even though he was a top independent wrestler when he was signed in 2021.
